Bug & Claw Evolves In Style and Tone With a Bold Vision for New Brand System via Team-Up With Mindkillerink

Calgary, Sept 12, 2024 – Bug & Claw's new logo represents Monkey's Lunch's commitment to creating leading stories, experiences, and innovative gaming projects.

Changes and what is staying the same

The old Bug & Claw logo had a nice symbol paired with a hasty stack of the "Superior Title" font family. While the symbol represented some of the barebones concept, it didn't quite capture the look and feel of the growing world of Bug & Claw. The new logo, colours, and typography combine to form a comprehensive brand package that more closely represents the spirit of Bug & Claw. The logo itself– an impossible beetle creature with the claws of a crustacean catching a falling star– captures mystery, transformation, and hope. The new colours provide high-contrast readability yet a vibrant impact. Meanwhile, the new logotype, utilizing Tiller Rounded and the accompanying brand typography of Interstate, maintains strong readability, accessibility, and impact.

  • New logo symbol
  • New logo typeform
  • New brand colours
  • New brand font selection
  • New minor supporting iconography

What's old becomes new again: the prior logo of the crab character catching a small star may still make an odd appearance, but now not as a logo but as supporting imagery and iconography.

Reason for rebranding

Monkey's Lunch will continue to experiment on smaller game and fiction releases, but those all build in the learnings they provide toward creations that are bigger and better than the sum of what came before them. Flagship creations like the world of Bug & Claw are meant to stand alongside tabletop roleplaying, sci-fi, and fantasy fiction greats and need the polish and attention required to make that happen.

In executing on the next evolution of Bug & Claw's branding journey, CEO and lead creator, Spencer Goldade, knew immediately that his own illustration and design style was not the right fit and in order to flex where it would needed to go would take significant time investment that could be better aimed at working on the game and lore surrounding Bug & Claw instead. For this reason, Spencer sought the help of someone who has already made a trusted brand for themself in the space. It was an easy decision to reach out to Tim Hastings of Mindkillerink, who has already worked on great projects such as Knave Second Edition, Dolmenwood, Swordfish Islands, The Tomb of BlackSand, and more. Mindkillerink was excellent to work and partner with, providing transparency in their process, strong collaboration, and a high degree of trust.

New impact

We hope you'll join us in celebrating the new brand identity of Bug & Claw on social media, and we look forward to seeing it represented in upcoming stories of evolving characters and the chaotic lands of Entomara and the upcoming tabletop roleplaying game.

What is Bug & Claw?

It’s hundreds of thousands of years in the future. Humans are no more, and bug-kin (intelligent, mutant arthropods) are the dominant intelligent life form on the planet.

Changed by a dying human race trying to preserve its knowledge and save the earth, your kind now repeats or prevents the mistakes of the past from occurring.

Bug & Claw is a rules-light, lore-heavy tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) of friendship between strange creatures, change and adaptation, corrupt governments and royal families, and breaking the vicious cycle of the past, spreading hope through bizarre and fantastic lands.

Bug & Claw is part of parent company, Monkey's Lunch, run by designer, Spencer Goldade. Tentative release date: Early 2025
